President
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on the National Scouts (Pramuka) to utilize its
52 anniversary, which fell on Wednesday,
as a momentum to boost the movement’s revitalization process.
“The
revitalization of Pramuka , which has been ongoing for seven years, must be
utilized to create Pramuka as a youth movement that produces young people with
strong character and nationalism,” Yudhoyono said in his speech during the
Pramuka’s anniversary celebration in Cibubur, East Jakarta.
Yudhoyono
also used his speech to promote the nation’s character development. “The fate
of our nation in the next 10, 20 or 50 years will depend on today’s youths. We
want to see that during the celebration of Indonesia’s 100 independence anniversary in 2045,
Indonesia has become a great and developed nation,” he said.
Hundreds
of Pramuka members from Jakarta, Banten and West Java attended the celebration.
A
number of Cabinet members, such as Coordinating Political, Legal, and Security
Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating People’s Welfare Minister Agung
Laksono, State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Education and Culture Minister Muhammad
Nuh, Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo Notodiprojo, as well as Jakarta
Governor Joko Widodo, also attended the ceremony.(dic)
